The Flood (Noah's Ark)
The judgment of the world and the preservation of a faithful remnant.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
There are more than 200 flood narratives in ancient cultures (Gilgamesh/Babylon, Deucalion/Greece). The biblical account is distinguished by ethics: the flood does not come at the whim of the gods (human noise, as in Gilgamesh), but by human moral violence.
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
The Ark is a type of Christ (salvation through judgment). The water that judges (baptism, 1 Peter 3) also saves the righteous. God re-creates the world out of chaos.
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Literalist Search for the Ark: Focusing on the archeology of the wood of the ark and missing the theological point: God takes sin seriously, but provides escape.
