OT MetaphorGenesis 1-3

Creation (Adam and Eve)

The origin, dignity and tragedy of the human condition.

1. Historical-Scientific Aspect

The narrative contrasts with neighboring myths (Enuma Elish), where the world is made of violence (the body of a dead monster). In Genesis, peace and order are made by the Word. 'Adam' means 'Humanity/Earth'.

2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)

Human beings are Imago Dei (Image of God), priests in the Cosmic Temple. The Fall is the search for moral autonomy ('being like God', defining good and evil for oneself).

3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations

Science vs. Faith: Trying to read Genesis 1 as a geology or biology manual (Evolution vs Creationism) is an anachronism that ignores the literary genre of the text (liturgical theology, not scientific paper).
