The Two Eagles and the Vine
Fidelity to political and divine alliances.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
Eagle 1 = Nebuchadnezzar (Babylon); Eagle 2 = Pharaoh (Egypt). Vine = Zedekiah (king of Judah). Zedekiah swore allegiance to Babylon in the name of Yahweh, but betrayed it by seeking Egypt.
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
God takes oaths seriously, even those made to pagan kings. Political betrayal was betrayal of the name of God. God promises to plant His own branch (the Messiah) that will be faithful.
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Realpolitik without ethics. God judges the nation that breaks treaties and acts with international treachery.
