The Bad Farmers
The rejection of the Son brings the transfer of the Kingdom.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
Absent latifundia was common. Tenant farmers often revolted to attempt adverse possession (land possession) if the heir died without registration.
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
Transparent allegory: Vine = Israel; Owner = God; Servants = Prophets; Son = Jesus. Jesus prophesies his own death outside the walls (v. 39). The Kingdom is taken away from corrupt leadership and given to a 'nation' (Church made up of Jews and Gentiles) that produces fruit.
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Anti-Semitism: Used to say that God rejected the Jews forever. Paul (Rm 11) corrects: the rejection is partial and temporary, and the Gentiles were 'grafted in', they did not replace the root.
