The Two Debtors
Love is the proportional response to perceived forgiveness.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
500 denarii (1.5 years of work) vs 50 denarii. Both were unpayable for trapped debtors. The sinful woman (prostitute?) let down her hair (a shameful act in public) to dry Jesus' feet, demonstrating shocking humility and adoration.
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
The woman was not forgiven because she loved; she loved a lot because she realized that she was forgiven a lot. Simon, the Pharisee, loved little because he thought he was a little sinner.
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Salvation by Love/Charity: 'She was saved because she was loving'. Jesus says: 'Your faith has saved you'. Love was the visible proof of the forgiveness received by faith.
