The Merciless Servant
The forgiveness received must flow; to withhold it is to cancel grace.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
The Debt: 10,000 talents was an absurd hyperbole. One talent = 6,000 denarii. The debt was 60 million days of work (unpayable). 100 denarii (colleague's debt) was 100 days (payable). The disproportion is 600,000 to 1.
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
We do not forgive because the other deserves it, but because we have been infinitely forgiven. God's forgiveness establishes a new relational logic. Those who do not forgive demonstrate that they have not understood or received grace.
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Conditional Forgiveness: 'God only forgives if I forgive'. The text shows that God's forgiveness came first (v. 27); revocation occurs when grace is rejected by the servant's attitude. It is a warning against hypocrisy, not a transaction.
