The Friend at Midnight
Boldness in prayer is rewarded.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
Peasant houses had one room. The whole family slept together on a raised platform. Getting up would wake everyone up (children, animals). Not having bread for a guest (who traveled at night to escape the heat) was the ultimate shame for the village's honor.
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
God is contrasted, not compared. If even a grumpy neighbor responds out of 'importunity' (Greek anaideia - shameless/audacious) to avoid dishonor, how much more will the Father give the Holy Spirit promptly?
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Read the anaideia as just 'persistence'. It means 'brazen audacity'. We can come to God boldly, based on His honor (Name), not our friendship.
