The Tower and the King at War
Discipleship demands rational cost calculation and total surrender.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
Building and not finishing brought eternal public shame. A king with 10 thousand vs 20 thousand must negotiate peace before the battle, recognizing that he cannot win.
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
Jesus does not want impulsive or emotional followers. He demands resignation. The 'peace agreement' (v. 32) can be interpreted as our surrender to God - we cannot win against Him, so we surrender to His condition (discipleship).
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Easy Gospel: Sale of 'accepting Jesus' as a benefit passport with no cost of living. Jesus says: 'Anyone who does not renounce everything... cannot be my disciple'.
