The Seed Growing Secretly
The growth of the Kingdom is God's sovereign work, not human effort.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
The farmer does his part (sowing, harvesting), but the intermediate vital process (germinating, growing) is automatic (Greek automate - by itself). He sleeps and wakes, powerless to speed up the plant.
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
Against missionary anxiety. It is not our activism that converts or makes the Kingdom arrive. God gives growth. Confidence in the intrinsic power of the Word.
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Coach/Church Growth Theology: Human marketing techniques to 'grow the church'. Mark teaches that real growth is a divine mystery, not a human technique.
