The Lost Coin
The intrinsic value of the human being to God.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
Peasant houses had no windows (just slits); the floor was hard or stone. The drachma was equivalent to a day's salary, but it could be part of the woman's dowry (semezana), having immense sentimental value (like a wedding ring).
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
God is compared to a woman (one of the few feminine images for God). He turns on the light (revelation) and sweeps the house (history/world) diligently. The coin does not 'regret' in the cognitive sense; she is found. This emphasizes prevenient grace.
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Interpreting the loss as God's 'carelessness'. The emphasis is on the diligence of the search, not the cause of the loss.
