The Wedding Party
Many are called, few chosen. Grace demands transformation.
1. Historical-Scientific Aspect
Kings provided festive robes for honored guests. Refusing to wear the offered cloak was arrogant contempt for the king, insisting on one's own clothing (one's own merit).
2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)
The invitation is universal (good and bad, v. 10), but permanence requires the 'wedding garment' (Christ's righteousness/sanctification). You cannot be in the Kingdom while maintaining the old self-sufficient identity.
3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations
Inclusion without Conversion: The idea that God accepts everyone the way they are and leaves them that way. He accepts them as they are, but dresses them in new clothes. The man without clothes was expelled.
