Parables

Stories that reveal the Kingdom.

Parable of JesusMark 4:21-25

Candeia

The parable of the burning lamp: the truth of the Kingdom is not esoteric, but destined for public revelation.

1. Historical-Scientific Aspect

The 'bushel' (measuring basket) would cover the light (dangerous, fire) or extinguish it. The candlelight was the high place.

2. Theological Aspect (Universal Basic)

Christianity is not a Gnostic mystery for initiates. If something is hidden now (parables), it is to be revealed. Christians must be visible.

3. Counterpoints and Misinterpretations

Private Faith: 'My religion is mine alone'. Jesus says that hidden light is useless.
