Manifesto: Why Memra?

We are living through a moment of "de-churching." Not because of a lack of faith, but because of an excess of noise. Institutions that promise mediation often deliver manipulation. Memra is a technological response to an ancient spiritual need: direct access to the Source.

What Does "Memra" Mean?

Memra (מֵימְרָא) is an Aramaic term found in the Targums, ancient translations of the Jewish Bible. It describes God's creative manifestation. Where Hebrew said "God created," Aramaic translators often said "the Memra (Word) of God created."

John 1:1 recovers this concept: "In the beginning was the Word (Logos/Memra)..." We chose the name because faith should be grounded in an encounter with this living Word, not fossilized human dogmas.

Against the Fallacy of Mediated Authority

For centuries, people were told they needed "spiritual covering" or a human leader to interpret the Bible for them. The Protestant Reformation fought this barrier, but many denominations have rebuilt it.

• •Understand a verse's historical context before applying it.
• •Question traditions that are not in the original text.

Technology at the Service of the Spirit

We do not fear technology. Gutenberg's press democratized the Bible in the fifteenth century. Artificial intelligence democratizes exegesis in the twenty-first.

Our commitment is neutrality. We are not Calvinist, Arminian, or liberal. We are textual. We offer the tools; the conclusion is between you and God.
